Camping At Overland Expo West

When Bianca and I first started becoming interested in overlanding, I searched everywhere for information about the right gear, the right places, the right truck, and one of the resources I came across was the overland Expo. The overland Expo is put on each year in three or four different locations throughout the US one in particular is held right in Flagstaff AZ, and that’s the overland Expo West. so this year Bianca and I decided we would give it a shot and head there to camp for four days and check out all the overland gear, vans, products, and everything else as well as to also check out Flagstaff a little bit.

We left Vegas around eight am and made quick work of the four hour drive. We headed south through kingman then East to flagstaff. The drive seemed short with so much to see along the way. Arriving in Flagstaff we checked in at the Double Tree hotel, the official spot to get all of your docs and find out where your campsite is. We opted for the VIP camping that included upgraded showers, got to keep the wife happy. We were told we were in the red lot, got our passes and headed in. We expected long lines but were surprised to find it didn’t take long to get into our designated area at all. The Red Lot is situated right next to the entrance to the expo and once inside we found a spot big enough for both Bianca and my jeep. We started to unload and get set up, within five minutes the kids had already introduced themselves to the neighbors and were trading names with all the other kids. They started playing “wolf pack” and before we knew what was happening they were off into the woods. Bianca and I met the neighbors as well and quickly had invites to camp dinners, evening knight caps, and smore cookouts.

The next day we spent most of our time checking out the hundreds of vendors and products on display on the ground. Anything and everything you could think of was on display. If its made for overlanding, camping , or the outdoors in general … it here.

The Overland Expo West in Flagstaff did not disappoint. We had so much fun and met a ton of people who we will stay connected with for year to come. I spent a fair amount of cash but came away with some great gear and plans to use it very soon.
